Once you get your head around OHm’s Law, modding couldn’t be easier.

Whilst most vapers tiptoe around the intricacies of Ohm’s Law, they are truly missing out on the great powers and freedom which it unlocks. The simple formula is the key to a lot of different vaping experiences, many of which will bring a broader horizons to your vaping experience. Whether you’re a vaping pro or new to the hobby, it will always be helpful to have a good grounding in Ohm’s Law. But what is Ohm’s Law, how do you use it and how does it relate to your vaping experience?

The history of Ohm’s Law

Using glass jars and tubes filled with salt solution, the first experiments with Ohm’s Law dated back to 1781, when famous British scientist Henry Cavendish experimented with circuits, using shocks to his own body to measure “electrification”. Fast forward 40 years and Georg Ohm was publishing his results on resistance experiments. In the years 1825 to 1827 he compiled his research in the book “The Galvanic Circuit Investigated Mathematically”. Using a galvanometer and test wires, he managed to come up with the main source of Ohm’s Law and refined it over a three year period. Since then, Ohm’s Law has become common knowledge and is used regularly in the scientific community.

The formula

There are several formulas which came out of Ohm’s Law, all of which give the basic principles to measuring and creating an electrical circuit. The main concept behind it is the relationship between voltage, current and resistance.

The current of a circuit, or amps, is the flow of electricity through it. The Voltage is the potential difference and electromotive force, whilst the resistance,or the ohms of a circuit is the measure of how difficult it is for electricity to pass through a circuit.

Ohm’s Law ties all three of these electrical circuit elements together in the equation

Resistance = Voltage / Current.

This formula makes it easy to find one missing element of a circuit and calibrate it accordingly. The applications of this formula is used for all electrical circuits in the world, it becoming one of the most useful electrical formulas used today.

Vaping and Ohm’s Law

And one of the most recent and innovative uses of Ohm’s Law has been in the use and calibration of vaping mods. In vaping mods, the formula translates as

Amps = Battery Voltage / coil resistance.

Vape mods use variable voltages or variable wattages to increase or lower their power settings. This makes it useful to understand Ohm’s Law, making it easier to find the right vape setting for your variable mod. This also means that you can experiment with different resistances in your coils, opening up an entire new dimension of vaping and a new understanding which wouldn’t be accessible without the use of Ohm’s Law.

How to apply it to a better vaping experience

Many of those who vape with larger devices are often experimenting to find the best settings and juice balances for their own personal tastes. Understanding Ohm’s Law will ensure that they have the necessary tools to find this.

Variable wattage and voltage devices are almost interchangeable in that they give you the freedom to change the current flowing through your device. Whilst the variable wattage calibrates the output of your device, the voltage will calibrate the input. These devices therefore, require you to understand the different formulas in Ohm’s Law to take full advantage of what they can offer.

Understanding Ohm’s Law will also ensure that you are using your vape device safely. Adhering to the formula will ensure that you never stray from the boundaries of your circuit, keeping you safe from your vape device bursting or short circuiting.
