You may have seen some interesting headlines recently, with lines such as “VAPING BAD E-cigs are just as bad for your heart as smoking fags as they damage key blood vessels, say experts” or “Vaping as bad for your heart as smoking cigarettes, study finds”. I’d like to think that this something we are used to seeing now within the vaping community and with that in mind I hope that none of you managed to fall for this scaremongering! There really is no need to have second thoughts about vaping as a result of these headlines.

These headlines and many more have no real grounding in reality, and are all ridiculously misleading. As I said, this sort of behavior from journalists is all too common now and a lot of us have built up a thick skin to it. But who’s behind this study? The claim was made at a conference, the European Society of Cardiology congress in Rome, by Professor Charalambos Vlachopoulos, of the University of Athens Medical School. And yes, it is of course, sponsoredby pharma interests.

We should not be concerned by this. This is a study that measures an acute effect of nicotine use on the ‘stiffness’ blood vessels. Similar effects are found with exposure to coffee, as a result of exercise and even while listening to music. Just because a stimulant causes a change to some measurable property of the body, it cannot be assumed (as they appear to have done here) that this will lead to harm. And before any of those wonder if he knew of coffee’s effects on the ‘stiffness’ blood vessels, Yes. He was the lead author of a study about it.

And what is even more laughable about these so called “headlines” is that it’s not even news! We already knew that nicotine caused arterial stiffening, see here.

Now obviously you can still make up your own mind in regards to this study as well as the many others however, we here at No.1 Ejuice will be taking this with a pinch of salt.
