Our Guide to E-Liquids: The Composition Breakdown

More and more smokers worldwide have ditched their traditional tobacco sticks for the modern flavours of e-cigarettes over the past couple of years. With a healthier approach to smoking at about 95 per cent, it’s no wonder why more people have come to welcome and appreciate it. With e-cigarettes, people can still revel in their smoking habits while enjoying their convenience and healthier benefits all at the same time.

As with everything else that is being ingested into the human body, people have questioned the safety of vaping and that of its composition—and rightly so. It is encouraged, even, to read up about vaping to find out exactly how safe it is. You know what a wise friend once said? “If you’re going to do something wrong, do it right.” Not that there’s anything wrong with the practice, okay, but that’s not really the point. The point is before you dive into it, you need to have a quick Vape Education 101 first.

E-Liquid Contents: The Breakdown

To understand its composition better, first, you’ll have to know the ingredients. So, what are they?

Vegetable Glycerin

Vegetable Glycerine (VG) is added and mixed to the solution to increase the e-liquid’s density. It is used to make the consistency thicker, and it’s perfectly safe for consumption. However, one has to take precautions when vaping since some people are allergic to this compound. In the event that you’re experiencing signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction, consult your physician and switch to a non-VG e-liquid instead.

Propylene Glycol

Often used as an additive in some medicines and an ingredient of food colouring, the Propylene Glycol (PG) is a non-toxic compound that is safe to be ingested by the human body. It gives e-liquids a better flavour and taste, and it may be used on its own in vape juices with or without the VG.

Diketones

Diketones give your vape juice its “buttery” or creamy flavour. It's a set of four different chemicals, of which two have been known to contain traces of diacetyl, which is detrimental to your health. For some products, the testing of this ingredient is mandatory. However, in the case of inhalants, testing diketones isn’t a requirement, and that is why it’s hard to look for vape juices that are absolutely free of diketone.

Diacetyl

Diacetyl is an ingredient that is absolutely not fit for human consumption and is even banned in some countries. The ingestion of high amounts of diacetyl can lead to lung diseases, which is why purchasers are advised against buying cheaper vape juice alternatives that may contain this chemical.

Puff, Puff and Away

Precaution is highly recommended in purchasing e-liquids. Investing in the premium ones may cost you a bit, but you can be sure it’s made of top-quality and perfectly safe ingredients. Feeling guilt-free and confident that you’re relatively safer as you indulge yourself in your habit while puffing away is one of the best things in the world. That’s why awareness of the composition and the pros and cons of your e-juices is a definite must when it comes to vaping.
