POWER OR AIRFLOW - WHAT’S MORE IMPORTANT?
As your vaping experience broadens from the perfunctory cigalike to RDA’s and best vape mods, you’ll begin to notice a widening in the terms used, and the components which you can swap and chop within the device. Two of these terms are airflow and power. Airflow and power are two vaping terms which refer to adjustable settings within a vape device. Whilst both have their benefits, is there one you need to explore more than the other?
What is airflow?
Airflow refers to the customisable method of adjusting how much air gets into your vape device. By air we mean the amount of extra air there is in your vapour, making the inhale cooler or warmer, depending on the tightness of your airflow. The smaller the airflow, the less air and therefore the warmer the vape hit.
How do you adjust your airflow?
There is usually an o-ring either on the mouthpiece or near the bottom of the device. This can be adjusted by sliding it up and down. You can usually find these on more advanced vape devices as well as vape pens.
Benefits of airflow
So what does having a better airflow on your device give you that devices without it won’t benefit from? Below are some of the reasons why the airflow is an important aspect of advanced vaping.
Cooler air can help you if you are planning on creating larger vape clouds. The higher powered your vape inhale, the more airflow you’ll want so as to counter the intensity of the hit. This is also useful for if you want to sub ohm vape, which we will talk about in more detail later on.
Flexible vape hits
You can adjust your air flow as per vape juice you are using. Some vape juices may have more nicotine, or a higher propylene glycol content, in which case you might want a cooler vape hit to counter the intensity of the flavours and nicotine.
What is power?
When people in vape shops refer to power, they usually mean the voltage or the wattage of the vape device. Voltage refers to the input power, or electricity, coming into your vape device, whilst the wattage means the outputted power of your vape device. Variable voltage or variable wattage?
Variable voltage and variable wattage are two separate power settings on your device which can be used to lower or heighten the amount of electricity flowing through your device. Using a display on your device, you can adjust the voltage or wattage in your devices circuit, creating larger or smaller vape clouds.
Sub ohm vaping
Sub ohm Vaping is another option in your variable power settings. Sub Ohming means lowering the resistance in your coil so that more voltage can run through the circuit, creating a larger power output. Whether you’re using a variable wattage or voltage device, you can adjust the resistance to increase either.
Which one is right for you?
So, when it comes down to it, should you invest in a variable device or go for the airflow instead/ The answer is always both. More often than not, devices use both elements; you’ll have a variable voltage or wattage device which also has an adjustable airflow. The reason for this is that when you change one, you will most likely want to adjust the other. Having this flexibility means that you can fine tune and precision pin point your vaping sweet spot.
