Key Tips to Help You Store Your E-Liquids Safely for the Long Term
Discovering something new can be exciting at times. You may have discovered a new-found love for e-liquid and bought several of them to store for a few weeks or perhaps a month or two. However, you must keep these e-liquids safely not only for its sake but for you and your family as well!
General Vape Juice Safety
Before continuing with this article, there are some things you need to know. Nicotine is a toxic substance if consumed in incorrect amounts. It is especially dangerous for animals and little children. Although there are government regulations to use child-proof caps, it is not sufficient. Children are smarter than you think and will figure out how to open it given enough time. As for animals, they can chew through plastic and rubber containers. You need to be extra cautious and put your e-liquids in a place where kids and pets cannot reach. Also, keep your liquids outside of the kitchen, as they can be mistaken for extracts.
The Three Forces of Evil
When it comes to keeping your e-liquid, also known as juices, safe, there are three aspects you have to consider: air, light, and heat. The chemicals that make up your juices are affected by these three elements in different ways.
Heat and light contain energy. When your juices absorb this energy, its molecules start to heat up and move faster, causing a reaction to occur, which creates new chemical bonds. This will change the composition of your e-liquid, changing the colour and taste of the juice. Also, once this happens, there is no way of reversing the change.
Exposing your e-liquid to air can cause it to oxidize, affecting the juice's chemical bondings. Air can also reduce the amount of nicotine in your juice. You'll still be able to vape the liquid, only without the nicotine effects.
Storing Your E-Liquids
The absolute best way to store your juices is in a cool, dark place, anywhere out of direct sunlight or any other heat source. Places like cabinets and drawers will suffice. If you're planning to store them long-term, make sure to take your juices out for a quick shake each week to keep the liquid well mixed.
If you're going out to buy some liquid, try to avoid plastic containers. When looking for juices, look for ones stored in glass bottles as no air can penetrate that material. Finally, make sure that your bottles are sealed tight. Here are three things you must know about vape juice and storage:
1 - Freezing Point
Different e-liquids have different chemical compositions, meaning that they will freeze at different temperatures. Getting your e-liquids too cold can do the same damage as getting them too hot. In these extreme temperatures, the juices can start to separate.
2 - Sub-Room Temperature Liquid
If you store the vape juice somewhere that is below room temperature, it may not function as normal. Cooler e-liquids tend to thicken. Leaving the juice out to warm up before use is recommended in such cases.
3 - Degradation by Air
Although your e-liquids may contain some anti-bacterial properties, bacteria in the air can still ruin your juice. Storing your juices in fridges can cause bacteria to grow, contaminating the liquid.
Enjoy your new-found hobby while keeping you, your pets, and your family safe! If you follow the steps given, not only will you save your e-liquids, but ensure that you will have maximum enjoyment every time you hit that vape.
