COIL-LESS VS COILS – WHAT’S BEST FOR VAPING?

Coils can be tricky to navigate. The small pieces of metal can often be fiddly and complex. A lot of ohming and gauges can lead to a lot of umming and ahing and soon enough, the everyday vaper might not know their left from right. There are two main types of vape devices when it comes to coils, the coil-made vape device, and the coil-less. Both have their own positives and negatives and will suit different types of vaper. So, what is the best e coil vape device for you?

What are coil based devices?

Coil based vape devices are vapes which use different sized wires inside their atomisers. These can be made using a wide range of metals and are the vein through which the electricity travels from the battery. Coil based vape devices are different from the coil free ones in that the metal wire is the connecting mechanism. There are many kinds of metal to make a coil out of, including nickel, kanthal and nichrome.

What are coil-free devices?

The coilless vape device is a kind of e cigarette which doesn’t use an atomiser with an exposed coil. By exposed, we mean a coil which touches the other vaping material, thus relinquishing the role of connection between the heating element and the battery. The heated atomiser connects directly to the battery and far from being coilless, the vape device actually hides the coil within the body of this atomiser.

Benefits of coils

Coil based vape devices usually focus more on the strength of the hit than the flavour itself. This is because coil-based devices give vapers the opportunity to vape with low resistance wires. The lower the resistance in your vape device, the more electricity can flow through the device. The more electricity flowing through your vape device, the bigger the hit. Low resistance, coil based devices are popular with cloud chasers and high VG vape users.

Negatives of coils

Coils can take away the purity of the hit, making the cloud larger but losing the taste in the process. The coil essentially makes the journey from tank to mouthpiece longer and is not as efficient in its use of vape liquid or battery. Coils can cook the vape juice if not properly used and also need to be cleaned every once in a while, to avoid blockages.

Benefits of coil-free

No coil means less of a journey for the e juice. For those vape flavour connoisseurs, the flavour is enhanced exponentially, whilst the energy is far more efficiently used. There are no leaks in the coil free device either, and less of a chance of the vape coil cooking the e liquid. All in all, coilless devices are far better suited to a vape liquid with a higher Propylene glycol content and higher nicotine content. In part this is because these juices are more taste orientated.

Negatives of coil-free

Coil free vape devices can pack a lot less of a punch than coil-based devices. This is because without the coil, there is less power flowing through the device, leading to smaller vape clouds. This makes coil free vaping a bad choice for DTL vapers but the perfect option for first timers and flavour chasers.

Which is right for you?

When it comes down to it, it depends on the way you want to vape. If you want to find that perfect hit and flavour, then coilless devices are far more potent, whilst cloud chasing should be reserved for the low resistance coil world, which gives you far more of a range of devices to choose from.
